Quick Trick To Make Pumpkins Last

Love those pumpkins! But I hate when they turn to mush don't you?
Just check out this simple trick to keep the bacteria from growing!
It isn't rocket science.....but it is science! Kill the Bacteria and they will not rot!
The dirt and bacteria that is left on these little gourds will eventually cause them to decay!
If you take the time to clean and disinfect them with a little bleach the problem is solved!

(If you don't like bleach....Hydrogen Peroxide works....although it is a little more costly)
Just fill the sink with water. Add the pumpkins/gourds and bleach. Scrub well!
These gourds will last all through October and November! They will be a nice addition to a traditional Cornucopia come Thanksgiving!

What can you do to deter the squirrels from munching on them . I tried using gourds but they ate them in 2 days. Would it help to put peppermint oil or clove oil. That might smell nice inside too?

A coating of floor wax (if you can find it anymore) makes them shiny and also helps them last a long time.

will I still be able to get out the seeds and use them? I am thinking just bleaching the outside of the pumpkins will not affect the pumpkin seeds as I use them to make pumpkin seeds for my "big boys".
