Found this old Bench and had an idea.
Bench as purchased
I lightly sanded the top to remove the super shiny gloss finish.
Image area.
I used chalk paint to cover only wear my image was going to be placed and transferred.
Carefully removing the paper from the image.
Removed image, let dry. This was a Mod Podge image transfer, for more information and how to, please check the web.
Image on bench.
Next I painted the piece in Dark Coalmine - homemade chalk paint. There are several different ways to make chalkpaint - this is the Plaster of Paris recipe: 3parts paint - 1 part plaster or paris, small amounts of water.
Painted and stenciled image.
After the painting and stenciling, I sealed the top with dark wax.
Finished.
Put my new darling French Bench in my home

I have a small round dining table that I want to redo for a card table. I love the results you obtained but would the finish stand up to card playing use? Instead of a wax finish would you recommend a matte varathane finish. Thank you. Do you have a blog?
