Kimberly Ferns (a Great Plant for the Porch, Patio, or Deck)

I love Kimberly Ferns. They are big and beautiful and can take a bit of abuse. I buy them on the markdown rack and cut off the dead, put them in a bigger pot, and water. I will over winter in the garage come about November maybe even December.
Kimberly Fern $3 early this summer on the markdown rack. Overwinter in the garage next month
forgot what this one was. I usually save tags but this was $3 this spring on the markdown rack. It got huge! was about 1/3 size when I got it at the grocery store for $3.99.
2 more Kimberly Ferns (have another one on the patio)
This is what happens to me~on the "I thought it was dead" side of my compost area. We had returned to VA in late Janaury and could not fit them in the garage so they died. I will cover them in the compost area this winter and see

I BOUGHT MINE THIS SPRING & PLANTED IN THE GROUND (THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL)! WILL I HAVE TO DIG THEM UP TO SAVE THEM OR CAN I JUST COVER THEM FOR THE WINTER, IT GETS PRETTY HARSH HERE IN OKLAHOMA IN THE WINTER?
    • @Pamela Jordan Yes, dig them up and put them in a garage (if it does not freeze in the garage) or in a basement with a window or even a sun room. They will look pathetic and need watered about once a week. In the spring you will divide and replant because they do go dormant in the pot. I am not a fan of Walmart but they have some large cheap pots for less than $6 and you may need to divide the fern in 1/2 if you do not have a big enough pot. good luck!

I too love these ferns. I didn't know their name I just called them sword ferns. LOL...anyway I have them lining my walkway to the front door and they get sooooo big they make a jungle I actually have to prune the walkway side which may sound weird but looks great....they fill in the hedged area almost immediately...within two weeks they are ready to pounce on walker's-by again. Great ferns...hearty and prolific as you stated.
    • @Stefeni Engebritson I overwinter 3 large ones in the garage because they take lows of 40 in my garage (I live in zone 7b). Then spring I cut them in half or quarters and pot again. Our small garage is a workshop and plant conservatory right now. LOL
