Front Yard Landscape Makeover. Curb Appeal Virginia Highlands Atlanta

The owners of this unique home wanted to do something special with the space to the right side of their driveway. Having just returned from a vacation in Italy, they wanted to add an Italian flair. They really wanted some Italian cypress trees, a place for herbs and lots of color from perennials. Initially, we all agreed that the holly hedge had to be removed however the tree ordinance for the City of Atlanta would not allow us to do this. To work around that issue, we proposed to prune the holly bushes, removing all the lower foliage, thus making them into trees. This approach would provide us space below to add the color that the client wanted. You'll see in the photos that we also included the Italian cypress. Rather than a hedge, they were used in clusters of three, on each side of the hollies, as an accent statement. This project was published in Atlanta Home Improvement magazine and won 1st place Landscape in their Before & After contest 2013.
