Copper Shelves in the Kitchen

Our kitchen had been nicely remodeled at some point before we moved into our house, but whoever did the remodel made the kind of strange choice to install a cabinet meant for a corner on one wall. It looked weird and guests regularly hit their heads on it. We decided to replace it with open shelving just in that one spot, and we opted to add some copper sheeting to them to make them a little more interesting. Read about taking the old cabinet down here.
We bought inexpensive black shelf brackets and some mdf boards at Home Depot.
We bought a roll of copper sheeting from an online supplier. We originally planned to wrap the copper over the side edges, but the more research I did, the more it seemed like that was going to be a trickier job than we were up for. So in the end we spray painted the edges black and just covered the rest with the copper.
There was nothing especially scientific about our copper wrapping technique: we measured and cut and then used a rolling pin to get over the shelves as smoothly as possible.
And glued it down.
Then we marked where the holes needed to go and drilled through the shelves and copper to attach everything securely together.
And then of course, the fun part: putting pretty things on the shelves! More on how I styled the shelves here. We've been living with the shelves for over a year now, and we're still loving them. And no more concussions for guests! Detailed tutorial and materials list over on my blog!
