Vanity Love

Chipped and Charming
by Chipped and Charming
My daughter has always wanted an antique vanity and I finally found one at an estate clearance sale to give to her for her 22nd birthday. I didn't see a marking on this to tell me who the manufacturer was, but I did find a date stamp on one of the drawers that said, "received August 1939". At first, we weren't planning on painting this, but as we looked closer the veneer was damaged and there were lots of scratches that needed to be sanded. We finally decided to paint her up using Farmhouse Paint in Creamy Linen and Aqua Provence. I used a stencil from Hobby Lobby to decorate the front of the drawers and replaced the "stick" hardware with something a bit more feminine. I smoothed and polished out the paint, which is VERY easy to do with Farmhouse Paint, and lightly distressed. I applied Minwax clear satin poly acrylic to the top for added protection. My daughter LOVES it and so do I!

I do think it turned out lovely, but what I wouldn't give for a fine piece of furniture with that expensive wood veneer intact, it was stunning!
