Renewed Rush Seat Chairs

Medium
If you have damaged seats (caned or rush) but love the chairs, you can renew them. Duct tape on mine was unattractive so I went with recycled belts
Old Rush Seat Chair brought to new life with belts.
This needed fixing
1. Strip chair of old seating, nails and residues.
2. Layout belts in the order you want your colors to go throughout, and to make sure your belts will reach across to attach.
3. Attach each belt to the under and inside of the seat frame. I drilled pilot holes and used short wood screws.
4. Complete side to side of the seat, attaching tightly and securely.
5.. Once the side to side belts are attached, begin weaving front to back belts.
6. Attach each belt on the front after weaving, pulling tightly to the back frame to secure with wood screws, trim off excess strapping.

What did you use to attach the belts to the chair? Cool!

Love it! I own 6 ladder back dinning chairs, and since no one including myself can ‘cane’ chairs, this I know I can do to put these handed down chairs from my mother-in-law back to it rightful place at a dinning room table when I find that. I have loved and used these chairs for over 30 years, can’t wait to add 30 + more of handing down.

Even though she said she purchased the 80 belts either second hand or on sale, I still would have liked the cost of the project to be listed, as that's a lot of belts!
