Building a Fireplace Mantel After Closing a Tv Niche Above Fireplace.

We closed up our tv niche above the fireplace. We found a used mantel at the ReStore, attached it, then added butcherblock to the mantel shelf. We planked the wall above the mantel and added picture frame and crown molding to finish it off.
We took the doors off.
We put the brackets in to attach the drywall.
Adding the drywall.
Taping and mudding.
Lots of sanding later...
It didn't have to be perfect because we knew we were adding planks over it.
We added backing to attach the new mantel.
Doesn't it look so much better?
Butcherblock screwed into existing mantel. I stained with Minwax Dark Chestnut. Six coats of polyurethane later, it is beautiful!
Crown molding and picture frame molding nailed in.
Planks added.
Two coats of primer and Valspar trim paint.
Who doesn't love a 'Before & After'? I do!!

  • I love the look. Simple yet clean. Also, you can change up the decorations for every season 🍁🍀🎄🌻🌼🌸🌹🌴🌵

I like it, but I also think it is missing not just something, but a lot. You need a big, beautiful, beveled mirror hanging above. Also a vas with fresh cut flowers, on one side. On the other side, a pair of matching or not, beautiful silver candlesticks.
