Reclaimed Dining Table

2 Materials
Advanced
We wanted a square rustic dining room table which wound up being harder to find than we had anticipated. In the end we decided to just build our own. We were able to reclaim all the material except a piece of plywood and some poplar 1x3s. This was definitely a labor of love but it turned out wonderful!
This is the finished table. It is 5x5 and can seat 8 comfortably.
The base is made of mild steel which were leftovers from a friend's workshop. After welding is all together we had to grind off all the red anti-corrosive coating.
The table top started with a piece of plywood that we nailed the pallet planks into. My hubby started with the cross pieces then from there filled in each triangle.
This is the table top post planing and sanding. The design was inspired by a picture we found on pinterest. The top consists of white and red oak from pallets and poplar that we bought to finish the edges.
And here is the final before and after. We still need two more chairs and some more art, but for the first time in 3 years our dining room is fully functional.

I know this old so not sure you will see it or not, but what did you use to plane the table?? Trying to figure out if we should attempt something similar or not :)
