It’s the third episode of Apartment Makeover and we are talking cocktails. Well not really cocktails, we are talking mini bar but what came first the cocktail or the mini bar? A mini bar can give so much warmth and hominess to a home.

I have always wanted a bar cart but then I saw that I had a china cabinet in my dinning room. What is a china cabinet you ask? Well, if you have read any of my other Apartment Makeover posts, then you would know that the house I am living in was built in 1910. Normally in 1910, you wouldn't be living alone because you would usually live with your parents until marriage. Once you were married, you would have a bridal shower where you would receive fine china, your wedding china, then you would live together with your significant other in wedded bliss. The china cabinet was meant to show off your fine china.
Well its now 2017, I am legally a "single" female, who lives alone and I don't have fine china, nor do I see myself needing fine china in the future. Now with all that said, I looked at the china cabinet and thought.... MINI BAR!
First step was clearing out all the random stuff inside. I wanted to take off the doors of the china cabinet, they were old, cracked, and layer after layer of paint. The doors were easy to take off but then we had to fill in the indents from the hinges.
To fill in the indents we simply used Elmer's Wood Filler. Completely recommend this product, easy to use and it changes colors when it is dry.
Then once it was all dry, it was time for paint. Painted everything with Behr Marquee semi gloss straight white. The walls inside the china cabinet were not in the best shape, I decided to use paintable wallpaper that had a little texture in order to give dimension and cover up any imperfections. I used the shelves that were originally in the cabinet, simply took them out painted them white and placed them back. Never underestimate the power of a simple paint job.
Top shelf, I wanted to make a wine rack. Originally I want to build it from scratch and then I realized that I didn't trust my work that much because I was going to be dealing with heavy bottles.
I opted for portable wine racks that I purchased from Amazon. Only problem is they don't sell white wine racks, so I purchased a wood color and then took white spray paint and painted the wine racks.
Second shelf from the top I want to display spirits. I didn't buy all these items at once because then I would be broke as joke. I have found that Total Wine is the best place to get the greatest prices on liquor.
Third shelf from the top, I hit a roadblock and didn't know what to do with it but then I started looking at legit bars and seeing how they would set up their bars and I always saw glassware but organize very aesthetically pleasingly. All my glassware was purchased from Dollar Tree and it cost me twelve dollars!
Last shelf, I decide to display bar tools and mixers and shakers. The bar kit, I purchased on Amazon and the mixers I received in a Yankee swap but I also have seen them at TJ Maxx.

When you get to the point of adding more to the liquor shelf, you might put in a short mirror shelf for a second back row. Also think about Ikea and some led strip lighting.

Nice transformation, but I can't see wallpaper pattern did you decide to not use it and why? I love the clean look if you should decide what's missing it's the mirror behind the liquor, most bars have mirror to see what's going on behind them and to make shelves look really full. I that your landlord is very nice allowing you to do this but it just increased his/her investment. Enjoy
