**I’ll be showing this exact tutorial on Hometalk Live on their Facebook page, this coming Thursday night 7pm EST (March 30, 2017). See you there!**I found a wooden box in KMart Australia for this project, but you can source something similar locally.

Gather your supplies:

  • Box
  • Napkins x 2
  • Fusion Transfer Gel (or other decoupage medium)
  • carbon/graphite paper
  • paint brush
  • paint or Sharpie/permanent marker

Separate the top ply of the napkin with the image on it, from the rest of the ply.

Paint Fusion Transfer Gel or decoupage medium over the entire surface on the end of your box with the handles on it.

Gently lay the napkin on top of the Transfer Gel and ever so carefully smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles with a credit or store card. Don't stress if you get a small tear here or there, we are aiming for a distressed look in the end.

Apply another layer of Transfer Gel over the top of the napkin and allow the entire project to dry.Notice that the edges of the napkin hang over the edge of the box, but are not glued down. We'll deal with them next.

Once completely dry, using a medium grade sandpaper (approx 120 or 240), sand the edges of the box where the napkin hangs over. This will remove the hanging napkin edges. At the same time, you can distress the edges all over giving a shabby chic look. Don't forget to distress along the ridges of the wood joins on the crate and the edges of the handle.Repeat this for the other side of the box now that this side is dry and finished.

Print out wording of your choice for the side of your box. I chose "Fresh Flowers 50c" for a Spring theme.Using the graphite paper, place a piece between the box and your printed paper, tracing the letters onto the box with a pen or pencil.

Fill in the letters of the traced words using either a Sharpie or a small fine paint brush in your favourite paint colour.

And you're finished!A beautiful Spring box ready to store your recipe books, or create a little herb garden. Maybe you could use it for Easter, filled with eggs and other goodies as a gift. What would you put in yours?
