How I Made a Cute Dog Bed From an Old Dresser Drawer

I save things. Well, not everything, but things that I think might be used for a future project of some kind. This project consisted of an old dresser drawer, legs from an old Hollywood Regency table, bun feet from an old sofa, glass drawer pulls, a precut wood "headboard" and a small gold leafed mirror.

I painted the drawer with Blackberry "Butter Butter" paint, measured the stripes and painted them with acrylic black paint. After the paint dried, I waxed the drawer with Blackberry "Barely Brown" wax.

I painted the bun feet with Blackberry "Butter Butter" paint, and waxed them with Blackberry "Barely Brown" to seal them. Then I glued the feet to the bottom of the drawer.

I used legs that go to a Hollywood Regency table that I am currently not using. The legs have embedded screws on the top. The bottom of the legs were screwed into the base of the coffee table. I simply unscrewed them to use as "posters" for the dog bed. I cut and glued small wood squares inside the corners of the drawer so that I would have a sturdy base to glue the "posters" to. If I want to use the coffee table again, it will be easy to reattach them to the table. Now I just needed "finials to screw on the leg tops. Oh wait....I had those too....old glass drawer pulls from a past remodel project.

The "headboard" is simply a piece of pre-cut Hobby Lobby wood painted in the same stripes. I glued a small gold leafed mirror in the center, and hung them from the bedposts with small chains looped over the finials. The two velvet pillows are from Goodwill and cost $3 each.

Did you also hook a small chain to the center of the headboard and attach to the bed to keep it from swinging when dogs are moving around on bed.? Also what could be used on the posts to deter dog from wanted to chew on posts.? Maybe painting with a thin hot sauce?? One time would keep dog from trying again.

Where did you buy the bun feet?

all you need now is a top for it and curtains...I really love the bed you made, I and no longer have animals, but used to line the old wicker laundry basket and put a nice fluffy pillow in it with a firm bottom under pillow of harder foam my dog loved it, my son about 2 would try crawling into it with the dog.. Yours is so adorable.

Bet that was really cute! She "naps" in this bed in front of her favorite window during the day, but she sleeps with us at night. Thanks for the nice comment.
