Cosmic Coasters

This is a super fun and easy project that has a cool result! These clay coasters only require a bit of rolling, baking, and painting.
Get several colors of clay that can be baked. I used Sculpey but Premo is another great brand to use.
Break up the clay in half, then roll the pieces you broke up into a ball.
Then you’re going to take those rolled up pieces
Then you’re going to take those rolled up pieces and twist them together. Kind of like you’re making a twizzler, but of clay. :)

Then take that giant blob of twisted clay, and roll it out into a long piece.
Now, take that long monster piece, and twist it on itself like you did the individual ones. You’re going to do this however many times till you are pleased with the color of the clay. I did this 2 to 3 times.
You’re going to finally take that giant thing of clay, roll it into a ball, and roll it out with a cup or rolling pin!
After it is good and flat, 1/4in at the most, you’re going to take the cup you rolled it out with, or any perfectly circled object, and trace it out
Boom!
You got your coaster, but wait, there’s more!
Get some parchment paper, put it on a baking sheet, and pop it in the oven. The oven should be set to 275 degrees, and leave the coasters in there for 30 minutes.
After it cools off, paint some gold paint on the edges to make them fancy. I used Martha Stewart’s metallic gold paint.
And you’re all finished!
Let me know if you had fun creating these awesome clay coasters!

They are really pretty. Do you have to seal them? Do they repel water naturally?

How much clay does it take to make four coasters? There will be ten of us, four generations, doing this and I need to have enough clay.

    Thank you,

    Lisa

Polymer clay should NOT be baked in any given used for cooking food. The toxic fumes from the baking of the clay adhere to the walls of your oven. The next time you use your oven it can be tea agreed to your food. I belong to a Polymer Guild and we use inexpensive toaster oven from the thrift fair or department stores. They are dedicated alley to the use of polymer clay.
