Your patio is a place to relax and unwind but how can you do that if you can't put your feet up? And your outdoor chairs didn't come with an ottoman...make one yourself.
Begin by measuring the height and width of the underside of the chair. This is where you will store the ottoman when you're not using it.
You will need a wooden crate, four casters, screws, and wood stain.
Turn the crate upside down and attach one caster to the corner using the screws.
Including the caster in your measurement, measure from the bottom of the caster to the height of the underneath of your chair.
Mark the height, draw a line and remove the excess wood/crate using a saw.
Remove the caster, sand and stain the wooden crate. Allow to dry. Seal the crate using a wood sealer.
While you are waiting for your crate to dry, make the pillow. I used 1/2 yard of outdoor fabric.

Sew three of the sides leaving one side open.
Using a standard size bed pillow, fold the pillow in half and stuff it into the cover.
Hand stitch the opening closed.
Spray the pillow with Scotchguard.
Once the crate has dried, turn the crate upside down and screw the four casters to the bottom four corners.
Stuff the pillow into the crate.
Now you can relax with your feet up.
And when you're not using the ottoman, it slides out of the way, under the chair.

Great idea and I keep thinking that the pillow would not be substantial enough and my legs would rest against the crate rather than plumped up on the cushion. Do you experience that at all?

I like the idea, but, in the picture, it looks like the back of your lower legs would be resting on the wooden crate edge, as low as the top of the pillow seems to sit in the crate. Maybe the pillow edges needs to overlap (pad) the top edges of the crate for better comfort??

Thanks for sharing this. Iā€™ve been trying to figure out how to make an ottoman for our deck. This could definitely work!
