Floral Ice Balls
Summer is just around the corner which means outdoor parties and celebrations! I was inspired by Marilyn Viruet-Bradley here on Hometalk to make giant floral ice balls to use in my ice bucket.
I started by cutting off the buds of some pretty purple carnations. You can choose any flower you'd like but these were the most colorful bunch at my grocery store.
Next, I took a latex balloon and placed the bottom of the bud inside the mouth of the balloon.
Using the dull end of a skewer, I pushed the flower completely inside the balloon.
Be sure to wiggle it around a few times to get the flower settled inside and not stuck in the neck of the balloon.
I took the balloon to my bathroom sink and filled it up as if I were making water balloons. Here is where you determine the size of your ice. I made mine about the size of a softball.
Simply tie off the balloon and giggle it around to make sure the flower didn't get stuck in you tie.
Clear a spot in your freezer and place your balloons inside. I checked on my balloons every few hours, turning them so they wouldn't develop flat spots. Also, this helps to make sure the flower isn't floating to the top of a balloon.
Once they are totally frozen (I left mine for 24 hours) remove them from the freezer and cut to tie off the balloon.
Peel the balloon off and you are left with a perfect floral ice ball!
I placed mine in my ice bucket with a bottle of champagne (soon to become mimosas 😉 ) on my bar cart.
I will totally be making these all summer long! Although you can't use them in your drinks, they are the perfect decoration and they cost nearly nothing to make!

If you begin by adding hot water instead, the ice balls will come out clearer. So you’ll be able to see the flower much better

I’m sure we can stuff it with pretty much with anything. Gotta try the colorful ribbons... The glitters might be a little messy if the ice melts and hard to clean up. Unless we don’t mind the cleaning. Enjoy!
