Think Inside the Box // Mailbox Door Hanger

With the start of a new season comes the chance to create new decor for the front door. This summer I’m breaking away from traditional round wreaths and repurposing this wall-mounted mailbox into some lovely door decor.
Begin by carefully cutting styrofoam or floral foam with a utility knife to fit inside the mailbox. You could just stick flowers in the box, but using foam will stabilize the overall arrangement and allow for varying height and direction.
I made a layer and a half with one block of floral foam from the dollar store. I wrapped the foam with Press 'n' Seal to keep it from falling apart when inserting and rearranging the flowers.
Two or three types of faux florals supplemented with greenery will make a beautiful and simple arrangement. For my hanger, I decided on a popular summer flower, hydrangeas, and one of my favorites, anemones. I later added a pretty pink peony for a pop of color.
Cut floral stems to length with wire cutters and insert into foam. To soften the look, remove the hydrangeas' leaves and fold them over the edges of the mailbox. To create texture and dimension, fill the empty spaces with a variety of greenery picks and wispy branches.
I found it helpful to create the arrangement with the mailbox hanging on a door. {Just run a piece of ribbon or wire through the holes in the back to hang.} I was able to insert a few flowers, step back and adjust as necessary.
The best part about this mailbox door hanger is that it can be easily customized for holidays and updated to reflect changing seasons.
For example, consider wrapping the mailbox with a patriotic bandana and inserting mini U.S. flags for Memorial Day and Independence Day.
Or add a sign with a welcoming message {all dollar store finds}.

This is really very pretty and certainly couldn't be any easier! I too like the idea of something different from a wreath on the front door and also that the look can be changed up for any season. Thanks for sharing!

I had done an anchor for my brothers grave , refreshing the flowers every year with a stronger foam and put it on a piece of wood and pounded it in at his grave.

Your mailbox door decoration is so clever and beautiful! My question is won't the metal rubbing adjust your door rub the paint off over time? I love the look and that you can easily change things out to match the different seasons! I think if you would attach four of those little clear rubber kitchen cabinet bumpers to the backside of your mailbox they would not only soften the sound of your metal mailbox hitting your door every time you open and close it but would also protect your door paint and possibly little dings over time! Just a suggestion! Maybe even just putting tape (duct tape in a black color) around the back edge of your mailbox would be more cost effective but only if you don't have a glass window on your door behind your mailbox. I may copy your idea since I already have the mail box like yours I'm not using and think this is a wonderful use for it..... So Pretty! Thanks for sharing!
