I scan every picture I can get my hands on. I do genealogy and I can tell you some real horror stories about what can happen to your family pictures no matter how hard you try to take care of them. How long after you die will someone care? How many generations will they be safe? If the person is dead, you can post their pictures at Find A Grave, Rootsweb, USGenWeb and Ancestry.com most are free. You can also save them at places like Shutterfly where you can have copies made. You can also share your scan with family on disks. Don't let your wonderful collection end up on the basement floor or sold from a storage place or a moving company, plus fires ect. So many times, only one person has the family pictures. Scan them and everyone can have them, I grew up not knowing my father's family. I was so thankful when someone shared their pictures and letters with me. My Find A Grave number is Carole Alden (#46518292) It's free, come and see my family.
