I bought this dresser for $40 with the intention of turning it into a TV stand for the living room. I love how it turned out. The first is the before picture
I stripped as much as I could then sanded and sanded and sanded. Whatever finish on it kept clogging the sand paper (BTW this dresser made my sander die) My hubby put casters under it also so we can eaily move it around
I started off after all the sanding to trace roses onto it then began the process of staining the roses, I used minwax walnut stain first. I just referred to the shading on the picture I printed out to trace onto this.
The I stained the entire piece using the minwax, brushing it on and wiping it off immediately, different parts of the wood took the stain more and less but I like it, I feel it gives it character. I then used unicorn spit black to give the flowers more depth
I used unicorn spit back and white to make the roses pop, give them more shading and highlights. After the roses were done I sprayed them with a sealer so the unicorn spit wouldn't reactivate.
The drawers I painted an off white then antiqued them with some brown acrylic paint, the original pulls I painted black and the center , I removed the doors and hubby cut the inside drawers to allow more air flow since we are putting out DVD player and such in them
the center rose.
I had so much trouble with brush marks on the top ( I used water based poly) so what I did was pour a large puddle like and very gently brushed it out and that really seemed to work for the top to give it more of a smooth glass like texture
Finished and TV and dvd had to go on top, I am very pleased with it though
