Sunflower/Sunburst Mirror Made With Cardstock

I’ve wanted a sunflower/sunburst mirror for a while. I found a couple that I liked at the store, however, I wasn’t a fan of the price. After some research, I knew the best material for this project was heavyweight cardstock.


I was going to use a circular mirror but I decided I needed something on top to decorate, then, Eureka! I will use a wood embroidery hoop and clothespins. They are easy to find and really affordable.


I drew the pattern and guide to make the placement of each petal easy-peasy and you can download them form my blog avantimorocha.com using your social media to unlock the file or buy it in my Etsy shop.

2.    Cut the patterns.

3.    Shape each petal.


4.    Curve the edges with a skewer.

5.    Curve the edges with a skewer.

6.    For the large petals I recommend to score them before folding.

7.    Use circle of foam board or cardboard as a base.

8.    Use the guide to place the petal in the correct position.

9.    Glue the base

10.    Glue the clothespins to the hoop

12.    Paint it. 

This project came out better than I expected. I put the mirror on top of my bed and it looks gorgeous! Nobody believes me when I tell them is made of paper.

    Just one question...it looks like you have shaded the petals abit to give it more definition. Did you do that with a dark paint and brush or does it just look that way. I am excited to try and make one of these myself as I commented down below.

    It looks like the card is indented where you put the mirror ,

    is it sunk or how did you glue the mirror onto the base
