I keep buying old chisels at sales. I have been keeping them in a box. This is not good for the edge and makes it hard to find the one you need.

I thought it was about time I made a rack for them.
I need two main pieces of wood for this. A backing piece and a front piece that would not be as wide.

I did not have any boards wide enough for the backing piece so I ripped a couple of pieces down, giving them clean edges.

Two of the pieces could be glued together to make the back.

I clamped them together and then left them over night to dry.

When the glue had dried I ran them through the planner to clean them up and make them all the same thickness.

I cut the boards down to their final length and cut some small spacer blocks the width of the back piece.

I glued a spacer on either end and then one in the middle. I clamped these down and left them to dry.

When they had dried I glued and clamped the top piece into position.

I waited for the glue to dry and then drilled holes through the top, spacer and into the bottom to accept a wooden dowel.

The holes got some glue in them and then the dowels could be hammered into place.
The protruding dowels get trimmed off. Then I gave it all a sand down.

I gave the rack a coat of Danish oil for protection and then fitted some brass hanging plates.

I attached it to the wall and filled it with chisels.
