A friend that passed away a while back was in the Army and his wife still had his dress green hat which she wanted to display. She ask me to build a case that would hold it and would let it be seen. This is what I came up with. What do you think about it?
This is the finished product. As you can see I have inserted walnut dowels and small slices of walnut at the joints to make them stronger and give some contrast to the Oak boards.
This is just after I assembled the parts to form the case.

Then I added the stand for the hat. This had to be made to fit the top of the hat and hold it to keep it from falling around.
The bottom of the case is removable to put the hat inside and then close it up to keep out dust.
Here you can see the slot for the glass to be installed.
The finish is applied.
Then four coats of polyurethane. When this dries then I installed the glass which I cut from 1/8" sheet glass. I used a hot glue gun to install them so they do not move.
With the hat installed.
