We are going to show you an easy and inexpensive way to banish your plain planters from your home! Brightening up a lackluster flower pot is a simple and fun project. All it takes is a plain $7 Ikea flower pot, some acrylic craft paint, and your favorite craft stencil pattern. Let's take a look.
Let's walk through the steps for completing this easy stencil project. Here is the Ikea Vildapel flower pot that Erika purchased for $5.99.
This plain wooden flower pot was perfect for her stenciled plans. The first thing Erika did was paint the flower pot in Benjamin Moore Cloud White.
Next she taped off the bottom of the painted pot with blue painter's tape. Erika planned to paint the bottom section in metallic gold. She used a small chip brush and Modern Master's metallic gold for this part.
Once it was painted, she was ready to start stenciling. For this particular project, Erika chose the Polka Dot Craft Pattern.  This whimsical dot pattern is so pretty and perfect for a fun garden project like this one.  Erika sprayed the back of the stencil with repositionable spray adhesive and positioned it along the side of the flower pot.  She painted the polka dots in Benjamin Moore Black and Modern Masters Pale Gold using a stencil brush.
If you are recreating this project at home, please make sure you brush off any excess paint onto a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed.
After one side is stenciled, peel back the stencil and resposition on the next side to complete the entire flower pot.
Then she stepped back to admire her adorable creation. Are you ready to see how it all turned out?  Here is Erika's stenciled Ikea flower pot.
How cute did this project turn out? Erika filled the playful looking flower pot with some pretty succulents and then placed it on her desk to enjoy!
