While in the clearance corner of an antiques mall, I spotted a vintage washboard that was missing...the actual washboard! That made it the perfect old piece to repurpose into something with some farmhouse flair. Please click HERE for the full tutorial!
There it was, on the floor in the clearance corner, as rickety and empty as could be. It was priced to move and my repurposing heart knew it had tremendous potential, so I brought it home.
Because of the rickety-ness, I needed to shore up its joints with some wood filler. I color-matched as close as I could and squeezed filler inside the joints on the back of the washboard frame. Then I let it sit overnight.
After I deepened the wood color on the front (NOT using stain- check out what I used HERE !), I stretched out some old chicken wire across the back and used a staple gun to lock it in place.
When all was said and done, this is how it looked! The chicken wire really gives it that trendy farmhouse look...but it's more than just decorative...
Because it's the perfect medium to clip old photographs to it for a unique, farmhouse style display! Isn't that great? And all from a broken, neglected piece...but you could do this to any old picture frame as well. Happy crafting!
