Painted Mahogany- Kidney Shaped Desk

I got a great deal on this desk, but the finish was shot. You could just scrape off the varnish with your fingernail. The mahogany was just beautiful so I wanted to leave as much of it as I could, but also giving it a fun face lift. I really enjoyed doing this one because I was able to use my art skills and paint on my own design by hand. Hope you enjoy!
I thought it was nice to put a lighter color on the inside panels that was you can really see the detail of the trim.
You can't tell from the photo, but the finish is very brittle, but the desk itself is in great shape.
Stripped down the drawers and they are ready for stain.
Stripped down and ready to be sanded.
Here are the newly stained drawers. They will be waxed with clear wax when they are dry.
Couple of coats of Duck Egg from Annie Sloan.
I took a white pastel pencil and drew on my design, and then I just used white paint to fill it in.
One side done! This will get fully waxed when done.
This is the kind of desk you want to put in the middle of the room!
Look at those gorgeous mahogany drawers.
There are still days when I wish I didn't sell this desk. If I kept everything I did I would have a furniture warehouse.
