First you need to pick up the wood! Head to a local HomeDepot and they will cut it to size for you!

Measurements:
   - Two 4" posts 55 inches tall
   -  Five 1 by 6" boards 60" long
Next, sand and wipe down the wood to prep it for the stain of your choice!
For more of a rustic feel I use several different stains. It shows more depth in the wood to make it look aged.
After the stain dries, I use a semi-gloss polyurethane. I like using the semi-gloss on rustic projects, it steals the wood without taking away the worn look!
Next, I measure and place my boards on the back of the posts and screw them in!
I also attached a board on the top to act as a shelf!
And there it is! You're new rustic headboard!

Ok, you're going to sand & paint --- why not use used lumber? Makes sense to me

I just bought an oak dresser and I have been trying to find an oak bed. This looks so simple I think I will try it. Probably would be cheaper too.
