I was looking for a quick and easy paint project to do when my mom asked if I had room on a wall or vase for chalkboard paint. Then she mentioned she had a friend who had painted the inside of a cabinet door for grocery lists.
BOOM! I had my project. Fun & easy!
My spice cabinet was the perfect spot for a chalkboard. It was looking a little worn with tape residue from posting recipes and school schedules on it. It also had a built in frame!
So the I went to Walmart to buy chalkboard paint. It was $9.98 for paint and $3.87 for spray. So I bought the spray. Then I came home and taped off the area.
Next I sprayed several layers of the chalkboard paint. Note: WEAR A MASK! If your cupboard is above your head you will get paint on your face. I DO NOT recommend the spray paint. Overspray was on my ivory counter afterward (soap and water took it off) and I didn't like the results.

Even with 5 coats and waiting 20 minutes inbetween coats, I could still see too much of the wood grain for my liking. So I decided to go back to the drawing board...errr chalkboard! This time I went to Hobby Lobby.
Hobby Lobby had many more sizes of chalkboard paint. This one was $2.99 and I used a 40 % off coupon from their website on my cellphone.
The coverage was much better and I quickly achieved the results I was looking for with just 2 coats!
I let it dry overnight and removed the tape!
Done!
Then I tried it out.
It's perfect for grocery lists, reminders, calendar memos, poetry or love notes to my fresh hubby! 💗
And all it takes is:
Update: 9/15 Hubby used it!

I’m definitely going to try this and I especially like that it’s inside the door. Groceries lists, to do lists and inspirational sayings, to me, are very private. Thanks for the idea👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
