DIY Lamp Makeover for Little Girl's Room

My daughters lamp base for her room broke a while ago, but the lamp shade made it. Problem is that it looks really baby and not little girl. So with a new lamp base I had found I set out to makeover her lamp with a little paint, some flowers, and some gems.
I started off with a lampshade from her baby room lamp and a lamp base that came from my son's room years ago. They did not match and truthfully they did not look that great on their own.
I first started with painting with a good quality acrylic paint the shade and the base in colors my little girl loved. she picked pick to the shade and teal for the base.
I then tool crystal swirls from the scrapbook department to stuck them all over the base of the lamp. They are already sticky so this was really easy.
Look how pretty this looks!!
I then took a series of fabric flowers and flowers punched out from foiled paper and layered them together with a gem in the middle. I made 20 of these flowers in various colors such as pink, purple, teal, and blue.
I then glued the flowers to the bottom of the lampshade all they way around. I alternated the colors and sizes of the flowers to even it all out.
I then took a sticky purple pearl strip and placed it at the top of the lamp shade.
The lamp turned out so cute and my little girl loves it!! She is still afraid of the dark and this fun little lamp helps her feel comfortable in her room at night!!

So any acrylic paint will work on a ceramic base? Did you do anything first?
How much light is emitted from the painted shade? Did you do that so you'd have a night light rather than having one with more illumination? I have a couple of past-their-prime shades and I was going to paint the existing bases but get new shades. What you've done with this lamp is just too gorgeous and I love the swirly bling. Great job altogether. I'd love to know if the paint blocks too much light for an adult bedroom. Many thanks.
