My adult son lives in a studio apartment. Thus, not much room for a dining table. I was at a garage sale and got a 2 piece tray table set with holder for $2.00. Now the tops of the tables were in rough shape. Stain coming off, wobbly...
I have since fixed them with new screws and they are sturdy as ever and restained the tops. I only did the top of the trays as the rest was in good shape stain wise.
And darker stain color is in right now...
i used rustoleum kit I had left over from refinishing my cabinets. Easy to use and no sandi ng required...
i cant wait to give this $2.00 set to my son. It cost very little and took one day to complete. Perfect for a single young man for eating on etc...and maybe having mom over for dinner 😉.
The original tray table tops. Can't tell from the picture but the stain is coming off from wear and tear...but no gouges or large scratches
up close before pic.
Second tray up close...
Using the rustoleum step 1 to get varnish off and poly... easy. Wait for it to dry for an hour.
After waiting for it to dry from step 1... you can put layer one of top coat.
supplies ready...
First layer of top coat on. Used the color chocolate.
One coat on.
After second coat and poly coat all finished. Between coat 1 and 2 you wait one hour. Then 4 hours before applying poly coat. Then let poly coat dry for 12 hours.
Final product...
finished product pics...
trays in the stand (that I tightened new screws)
looks nice and fresh. So easy, anyone can do this.
I'd use them... small price for big reward.
