We finished our laundry/mudroom just in time for Fall's muddy boots and wet puppy paws! The extended post with details of how we did it is here (and it's pretty long): https://shannon-leigh-diy.com/2017/09/18/laundrymudroom-final-product/ but you can see the end results below.
We built modular cubbies in the barn, carried it inside, screwed it into some studs, and then it was just some walnut stain and Behr Greige paint. Will added an outlet and switch for an easy way use his boot drier.
The reason we stained the back of the cubbies walnut was to match the walnut wood we had laying around that we used to make a small bench and some shelves for this room. This three-piece bench was quick and easy and it's incredibly sturdy.
For walnut shelves we used two pieces and rounded one edge so it wouldn't be a sharp hazard. We simply sanded and polyurethaned them. It is a prefect place to fold laundry.
The laundry area has a water heater and the plumbing for the washer behind the paneled wall we built. To access that area we included a small door under the shelves. :) I am loving the extra space we now have with the stacked washer/dryer arrangement.
We added some track lighting, which is great because there are several corners of the room that need lighting. We have one light pointed towards the pantry closet, one towards the laundry area, and one towards the cubbies. It was so easy and we can always add more tracks or lights in the future!
We are absolutely loving this space for all of our coat and shoe storage! I only wish we could've fit more cubbies! This was actually one of our cheaper projects even though there were so many components. We already had the walnut and the tiles were leftover from our kitchen (you can see related posts and before pictures here and here). The appliances were the most expensive part and otherwise it was just very time intensive.
