Create an Easy Halloween Tipsy Pot Planter in an Hour

Halloween season is in full swing and if you haven’t started decorating, this Halloween tipsy pot planter is a must! Not only is this super easy to make, it will not break the bank and it looks amazing! Last week, Arthur and I were lucky enough to face off in a head to head thrift store challenge, where we competed to see who could make the best thrift store project. The results came back via Instagram poll with a pretty even result. Winning by only seven votes was my this tiered tray. Since ‘tis the season for spooky witches and awesome Jack o’ lanterns, here is the tutorial for this easy and fun tipsy planter, which can be reused every year.
What you will need:
Pumpkin and cauldron buckets
rebar
drill with 1/2in spade drill bit
dirt
Flowers
Hammer
We shopped at the thrift store for old vintage trick or treat buckets. These buckets are usually in the thrift stores by the dozen and there are so many unusual things you could do with them! Especially at $1 a piece! Arthur grabbed some three Jack lantern buckets with differing faces and two witch cauldron buckets to make his planter. You can use any bucket that suits your fancy. (all pumpkins, all cauldrons, ghosts…) the sky is the limit. For this project you will also need a piece of rebar. You can get this from the hardware store.
How to make your Halloween Tipsy Pot Planter
Making the tipsy pots is the best part. (especially because you will be surprised at how easy this difficult looking project really is)
- First, drill the bottom of each bucket with a 1/inch drill bit. Simply place the hole in the very bottom (like a drainage hole)
- Next, decide where you would like to put the Halloween tipsy planter. Pound the rebar deep into the ground so that it is sturdy.
- Decide which pot you would like to place on the bottom. Thread the pot hole on the rebar and lower it to the ground. Once it is on the ground, position the bucket where you would like it to go.
- Fill the bucket with dirt to make stacking the next pot easier. Lower the next pot on top of the first and tilt it so that it looks like it is tipping. (the dirt should help to hold it in place.)
- Repeat this with the remaining pots, tilting them in opposite directions and adjusting them until you get the look you want.
- Once you get to the top, if there is any remaining rebar sticking out, make sure to pound it into the ground.
- Plant some flowers of your choice in the pots (we went with Mums) and enjoy your new awesome Halloween decoration!
I am super excited about how this turned out, especially for how easy and inexpensive it was! Every time I walk past it, the flowers and bright colors of the pots make me smile! I highly recommend giving this one a try! We also have an easy Halloween wreath you could try as well as some spooky heads in jars!

Shop for vintage style Trick or treat buckets
Use a 1/2 in, drill bit to drill holes in the bottom of the buckets.
Drill each bucket.
Pound rebar into the ground and start stacking the buckets, using dirt to help off set the weight
Continue with each planter.
