Stencils are the perfect way to give your holiday gifts a couture look. Stenciling gift wrap is easy to do and it can instantly add some hand-made charm to your package. Today we're going to walk you through the simple steps to create your own stenciled wrapping paper.
Erika, our in-house craft guru, took on the task of crafting the stenciled gift wrap. She purchased plain brown kraft paper and rolled it out on a smooth surface like her dining room table.
For this project, Erika chose our Otomi Craft pattern in a medium. This design was inspired by traditional Mexican tribal textiles. While any of our stencil patterns would work for this project, the Otomi Stencil is very popular right now.
Then position the stencil design on the kraft paper. You can secure the stencil in place using painter's tape (if necessary) or spray adhesive.

Erika applied spray adhesive to the back of the stencil. We like to use Sticky Note spray adhesive which can be purchased on Amazon. Then she placed the stencil on the top of the paper.

She poured her blue craft paint onto a small paint tray.  Then she lightly coated her dense foam roller with paint.  Be sure to roll off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel.  The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible.  Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Once the entire design was painted, she lifted the stencil back to reveal the eye-catching Otomi pattern.
Erika wanted to stencil a large sheet of paper so she could wrap multiple gifts. To do so, she needed to reposition the stencil and continue to paint the pattern on the entire kraft paper.
Again, she painted the pattern using the dense foam roller.
Then lifted to reveal!
Once it was dry, she was ready to wrap!
Now let's take a minute to admire Erika's stenciled wrapping paper!
She ended up stenciled the pattern in pink, yellow, and blue. Using left over paper, she crafted bows to match!
We just love how the gift wrap looks totally unique!
