Today I’m sharing how I decorated my fireplace for Christmas and the holidays. It’s rustic and cozy and perfect for chilly Arizona nights.

Thanks for stopping by! ~ Lisa
The main focal point of the fireplace place is the elk print. Last year I was looking for a painting for the mantel that would go with my winter rustic decor. It had to be pretty large to make a statement along with the fireplace. I looked and couldn’t find an affordable print under $150 for the size that I needed. I was at Goodwill when it dawned on me that I could repurpose a canvas into a print. Not that much of a revelation since I have been repurposing things all my life but when I saw a super large canvas, I knew I had to get it.
I purchased this huge canvas from $24.00!! Much less than a craft store and it was framed, even better. Here’s what it looked like “Before”. A southwest print in pinks and some green too.
I asked my girlfriend if she could paint an elk on it, I gave her an example and painted it for me. It was perfect and exactly what I envisioned. The original had different colors than mine, I needed her to use colors that would blend with my decor, brown, tan, gray, cream and white. This was what the fireplace looked like last year. Christmas 2016.
Here’s another a closeup of the print. The previous print had a lot of texture in the painting so my friend evened it out through the entire canvas. She is so talented! We all need friends like her!
Every year I change the decor so this time I added two lanterns on each side of the print.
Here’s a view on the stockings. I love to add different textures to my decor, especially soft and cozy fur. Every year I have used real garland but even before Christmas day, I was cleaning up dried needles and messes everyday, this year I tried to find the most real looking garland I could find and added two strands and added a little more color with sprigs of berries.
A closeup of a stocking and the details of our fireplace. I love the design of the fireplace because I can add decor full of sparkle and shine or rustic pieces like these and it makes everything look good.
I use the antlers, the fur pillow, antique basket and sheep skin in my home all year round so I rounded them up and added them to the hearth for more of a natural look.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little tour of my Christmas fireplace decor and I hope it inspires you to repurpose items to make them affordable for your own design style, just like I did with the elk print.
