We really needed something for our geranium to climb on....
First I thought our geranium (malva) wasn't getting enough sun because it was growing very well and very fast but with long shoots ...then I realized it was a climber...so we really had to make a plan, as it could not climb onto something by itself.
I do not know what this is called in other parts of the world. Here i South Africa it's called Welded Mesh. It's usually used to reinforce concrete, but we've been using it for quite a number of other things.

We decided that it was the ideal 'ladder' for our geranuim. NB: Just make sure that you have a full square on the one side and a cut off end on the other side. You can see the cut off end were hubby's hands are.
Once you have your desired length and height...start shaping. As it is quite hard to bend or manipulate, hubby had to use other 'tools' to get the desired shape.

He used an old wooden pole and two square tubing bars to bend it with....and a LOT of elbow grease..haha
Once it was completely round and the ends came together the cut off ends were used to keep it together. It was just bend over the other end, so make sure to have one side cut of. (as explained above)
Just fasten it roughly, and only fasten the top half of it, so you can get the bottom (loose) part over the pot with ease.
Once it's around the pot you can fasten all the ends.

Remember you can use any size squares...depending on the look you want. The bigger the squares, the cheaper. You don't want to go too big though as the spaces will be too big for the plant to climb up against. We used 100 mm x 100 mm squares.
And now the plant is happy. It has a height of 2.7 meters to grow, so it should work out just fine. Now we are quite happy ...and so is our plant.
The steel is quite hard, so it takes a while and a bit of effort to bend it in the round.

The plant you have there is an ivy geranium. It's a creeper nor really ment for a pot. But looks good!

Estelle, this has been an inspiration to me and I may try planting other plants that may need to climb in an indoor pot also.

Thank you for showing this and telling your story

I put a chicken wire round like that and put a stake in the ground to tie it to then the plant goes in the middle in the ground not in a pot. Send it can climb all the way up as much as it wants
