This is truly a quick and easy makeover that doesn't take much time and can make a big impact on the curb appeal of your house.
This as our front door. It has the look of wood and it's been painted several times before and has some scratches to cover. While I certainly love me some navy blue, I thought our porch needed a bit more color.
This house is currently yellow, so I wanted a color that would compliment the yellow tones -- a light green/blue/gray.  I pulled out my General Finishes Milk Paint and got to mixing and came up with my own recipe which you can get and watch in my full blog post here. This paint is rated for indoor and outdoor use and is perfect for front doors!
First, I cleaned the door with my denatured alcohol/water mix and taped around my door handles (which I plan on replacing later...)
Now for the paint! Start with the insets of the door and then work to flat sections. Really smooth out the paint, double checking for drips and moving the brush as much as possible with the pretend-wood grain.
This is the first coat as it's drying. Leave the door open so it doesn't stick to the door frame.

The coverage on this color was very good, even with the first coat.  I just had to finish it up with a quick second coat and it was done!

I didn't seal mine because I have a storm door and a porch protecting it. Also this General Finishes paint is a good paint that doesn't need to be sealed. You may consider a top coat if your door is in the direct elements.
Isn't this a wonderful blue/green???

I LOVE IT! Just want my front porch needed.

I still think the knocker and door handle may need an update too - but until it warms up a bit, they are just fine.  I'll show you an updated front porch soon.

Why paint the kick plate? Won’t the paint get chipped through use?
