Tutorial team challenge : I have always wanted to try...

...to have my own crafting/woodworking room!

WARNING : As per hubby's request... Plz note that invading your man's cave may poke the bear in him. He might start to wine like Chewbacca... icon As soon as reason takes over his hormones, he will become civilized again.

Okay guys! Please keep in mind... It is not suppose to look good, but practical!! 🔨

We had what we called the messy room downstairs. We used it to store tools, camping and sport stuff. It wasn't that bad, until we made our bigger boys moved to their new bedroom next to it and they decided to store things in there too! Store...? Let's be honest : they threw things in there!

Even my dog seems to think it's a mess! icon
In the last few years, I started to do a lot of woodworking and I bought and received many tools. Every time I wanted to work on a project, I had to move all the tools in our living room (yeah, I know!).

I decided to clean up the mess, threw a lot of things in garbage, gave some. I wanted to transform this room into a workshop... And I had to do it on a really tight budget.

It took weeks to finish this project, but I am so happy now! I used to search for everything... And even buy things I knew I had, but couldn't find them.
We already had two 5-Tier Shelf. I cut them in half to make storage under my soon to be bench table.
I made piles of tools, piles of screws and nails, piles of rulers, etc.
We had a little piece of pegboard hung on the wall, but I decided to make a complete wall of it. I started to install what I could on it, knowing it would be temporary, as the project was evolving.
I hung Dollar store flower pots on the wall for quick access to things I frequently use, such as gloves, rope, tie-raps, etc.
Next to those, I hung all my clamps on a curtain rod. These are the kind of things I was always searching for... This time is over! icon
I stored a lot of things in those clear plastic bins, bought at the Dollar store. I have a box for plumbing stuff, electrical stuff, etc.
Tired of searching for the right size of drill bit, I created a display for them! Easy to see, easy to find!
I installed a power bar on the side of the shelf using Velcro. It is plugged into an extension. That way, I not only have a lot of plugs available, but I can also move the power bar where it is needed. When the job is done, I simply put it back at its place and turn it off, making sure all tools are off.

The more powerful tools, such as the table saw and the miter saw, have their own plug.
The 6 inches wide shelf was okay for all electrical tools, except for one of the round saw, it was too narrow... So I doubled its width and left an opening for the blade to fit in it. Did the same kind of opening for the jigsaw (previous picture).
Getting somewhere, one step at the time!
The little mobile side table. I really love this one ! It is sturdy but light enough. I can use it where needed : to add width to my table saw, or length to my miter saw, or wherever I need it to be!
I still have some little things to do, like a tape dispenser, or a sanding paper dispenser... But it is already an amazing upgrade!
Is it just me or my workshop totally rocks? I can't wait to start new and big projects!!!

I am so very happy with the final result and all the new challenges awaiting for me!

Sitting here with the flu and now I know how to begin to clean out our work area in garage. This helped in so many ways. My husband(affectionally called my fossil cause he's 20 years older) has he's dad's ole work bench. That thing weigh's as much as a skyscraper! But has EVERYTHING on it that we need as far as tools and crap. I have hard time getting the drawers to open cause how heavy they are. The peg board is an awesome ideal for me in that area. The ideals are endless, but you got me started so thanks. I absolutely love the moveable side-table and will also have to build one of those also!

Ps: although Peg board has its merits... You might want to look into what's called a French cleat system. It is really easy to put together and easy to change around if you want different tools handy for different jobs
