Make Your Own Heart Shaped Fairy Lights

The one thing I don't like about this time of the year is the dull grey days and long dark nights. One of the things I do to brighten up my home is to make sure I have a few light decorations.
Once my Christmas decorations were taken down the house seemed bare and dull again. So that's when I decided to update some of the Christmas string lights with Hearts. They made a great Valentine's day decoration that perhaps could stay up the whole year round.
I used some copper string lights I had left over from Christmas but these are really cheap to buy if you don't have any.

To make my heart shapes I used shrink plastic which you can buy here.

I used a heart shape cookie cutter and drew around it as a template.
I then simply cut out the plastic heart shape using scissors.
Once all my hearts were cut out. I got about 20 hearts from 2 sheets of shrink plastic. I coloured them in with pink, purple and red sharpies.
The plastic shapes were then put on a tray and shrunk in the oven according to the instructions on the shrink plastic.
When done they shrink to about a 1/3 of their original size and become much thicker.
Using a hot glue gun I glued the heart shapes to the copper string lights.
I twisted the wire so 3 of the small led lights were on the back of each heart.
I carried on until all the hearts were attached.

This isn't the first time I've used shrink plastic in my craft, last year I made some fun luggage tag pins for a map magnetic board which you can see here.

I love these. Very sweet. I have to try making some myself.

    Claire, these are adorable!

I've used shrink plastic to make many ornaments years ago. I enjoyed the entire process. Just be sure to turn on the vent fan while you are baking.

Thanks for reminding me of this fun craft, I didn't know they still make the plastic for it.
