20 DIY Creative Plant Labels

Easy
Need some inspiration for cheap, easy, decorative and practical plant markers? I put together a post with a round up of ideas to get you started. Here are a few:
Decorative shell plant label and mulch
I used a permanent marker pen on a large beach shell as a plant label. Then kept the beach theme going with smaller shells around the pot as decorative mulch.
Repurposed plastic bottle plant labels
To make quick, cheap labels, I cut up plastic milk bottles into rectangular strips down the middle section. Then use scissors to make a sharp pointed end for inserting into the soil. The bottom of the bottle makes a handy pot saucer and the top can be used for a cloche or funnel. No waste or landfill either!
Close up of an upcycled plastic bottle label
You can write on both sides of these all weather labels. It's handy for recording the planting date, plant variety and expected harvest date. An average bottle makes 16-20 labels depending on how wide you cut, so start saving them for reuse outdoors!
Seed packet markers
Cover your seed packets with clear contact film to make them weatherproof. Then slip over a paddlepop stick - another easy low cost option!

I've shared a couple of printable templates on my blog post for making your own herb plant labels + loads of other DIY marker ideas. Hope you get inspired and save money by not buying new!
