Is your closet dark? Can't see things at the bottom? Try this!
Our poor coat closet. Such a disaster here before. In Chicago we need a trillion different coats for a trillion different weather scenarios and when you multiply that by two people and your coat closet is not even two feet square, whew, you've got some issues!

One of the biggest problems with a closet is the lighting. I can never see anything below a certain point, it's always too dark.

At the bottom here is a colossal pile of my husband's shoes. Driving me nutso. But you'd never know because it's so dark down there.
Here's our light fixture inside the closet. It's not bad. It's kinda modern actually. I approve.
Finding a ceiling mount base with an outlet is not difficult. Finding one that holds a shade, now that's a different story.

After digging around the internet, I was able to track down a ceiling mounted light fixture base that holds a shade but most importantly, it has an outlet in it.

The shade was important to keep the bulb from getting knocked and/or broken but you can certainly use a base without a shade holder.

Tough picture, I know, sorry. But after flipping off the breaker, taking off the old fixture and rewiring the new base with the outlet, I was good to go. You can kinda see that outlet there.
So how did I solve the closet lighting issue? A six foot LED rope light. You could just as easily use holiday lights but I know my husband and wanted to keep the lights protected.
Using the enclosed clips, I attached the rope light up the wall just inside the doorway opening.
Tidily-ish I tacked the extra wiring to the wall with cable tacks and plugged the LED rope light into the ceiling light base.
Voila! Closet lighting all the way to the floor, as seen from above!
And there we have it! A completely redone, reworked, reorganized closet with lighting that works!
We can actually see things at the bottom now, how fantastic is that!
