It was time to update my front door, because it still had my Valentine’s Day Wreath on it. Since this week’s challenge had to do with doors, it was the perfect time. I had actually planned to do quite a bit more than make a new door hanging, but I’ve been sick, and it can be done in parts.
The first thing that I did was to take down the Valentine’s wreath and hose down the doorway to get rid of the cobwebs, wasp nests, and other detritus from winter.
I also pulled the weeds around the front door.

Time to make the door hanging for this week’s challenge.
Materials for door hanging.
I’ve been picking up scarves and other fabric items a lot lately in my thrifting, so I selected a green and white striped scarf, a chevron patterned bandanna in spring colors, and a frog potholder to add to an old picture frame.

The scarf and bandanna were pretty wrinkled, so first I ironed them.  The picture frame was a bit thin, and it still had the staples in the back to hold in the backing, so I padded it a little bit with some mesh that I had taken off a shower scrub.
Once the scarf and bandanna were ironed, I wrapped the scarf loosely around the frame, letting all the fringe hang around the edges.  I tied the bandanna in a knot at the bottom of the frame. I'm sorry that I forgot to take some during pictures. Really, though, wrapping a frame or wreath is personal taste. I'm sure most people would take a lot more time than I did. I didn't even measure anything, just draped it around until I liked how it looked.

Next, I used some pre-painted flat stakes that I picked up for free at a garage sale and painted “SPRING” on them in a fan shape.  You could do the same with paint sticks and paint in your color choices. I just used these because I liked how the colors looked with my bandanna and scarf.

I stapled the front and back stakes to each other, then hot glued the rest in place. The frog pot holder I got at Goodwill for 59 cents had a pocket on one side. I placed the stakes in the pocket, and hot glued them in place.

Once I had the stakes and pot holder where I wanted them, I hot glued them to pieces of scarf so that they would stay in the frame.
Then I hung it on my front door.

There you have it - my door hanging.  Pretty simple, isn’t it?
This is what it looks like when you're walking up to the front door.

Beautifying your home doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. I spent a little over 30 minutes and $3.00 on this door hanging, and that includes the picture frame that I bought for a dollar several years ago and painted white a month or so ago. It's only a start, but I plan to keep adding to it. Hope you do a little, too!
