Sitting Room Re-do

Amy Rommel

This is the first room people enter my home through. And it was just blah. We wanted to spruce it up a bit using paint and new flooring and the fireplace is an eye sore!! Previous owners painted it white but there is a gas fireplace there that had made a mess. So we repainted it white using a paint that is easy to clean. We tried and sampled SO many different paint colors!!! I could not make up my mind. We finally decided we liked the chocolate brown color. We painted the one wall thinking we were going to do more of the walls either that same color or something a few shades lighter. But we loved the contrast between the light and dark. So we kept the one wall as an accent wall and refreshed the others.
This is the room before. So plain and blah...
Another shot before. What you cannot see to the right is a sliding glass door out to the deck.
You can see how desperately this needed to be cleaned up!! EEWWW!!!
We didn't have the budget to complete the flooring just yet, but the rest of the room is complete. (I won't bore you with the pix of us painting!!)
It's not a very big room, so we felt the dark paint would be too overwhelming on more than just the one wall.
So sad, but about a week after completion of this room, the fireplace stopped working!!!! We need to save some $$ and get a pellet stove in there!! (the kitty literally thinks we did this room for her!! lol!!)
Now we have a pretty entryway and it is a room we use all the time, whereas before we hardly ever sat in there...

looks great, I agree with the chair, looks comfy, just a bit big for the space, with the sectional.. if you ever replace, you might think of a wall hugger.. we got one and it made a big difference.. the brown with the crisp white looks great. even in a smaller space it shows you can have dark colors.. nice job..
