So we probably all know someone who has had one of these small round tables that you put little table skirts on. I inherited mine from my sister in law. I graciously took them, she had two as they were on their way to goodwill. I figured I could eventually use them. I love decorative mirrors but I hate the price tag most carry so I decided to make my own with the top from the table.
First step was to decide what to use to cover my table top. I opted for scrap book paper. I only needed 4 sheets. I bought an 8 inch round mirror from Michaels and 3 lanyards to go around the mirror. To hang the mirror I decided to use a silver belt.
Next step is to turn the table upside down and remove the legs and hardware.
You are now ready to put your paper on. I laid the table top on a hard surface and placed my paper where I wanted it.
This completely covering the table top. Holding the paper in place I used the blade of my scissors and traced around the outside.
Next step is to cut around where you went with your scissors. Once cut lay back on the table top.
Using glue and a brush apply to back of paper and apply to table top. Do this step to remaining paper. You may opt for spray glue. Next step is to centre mirror and attach using glue.
You may use a small scraper etc to make smooth and remove any wrinkles and bubbles you may have. Next you are going to add your lanyards.
I found these at Michaels, they were $3.00 each. I had to cut the end off. To do this hold upright so the beads don't fall off. I used my glue gun and put a dab of hot glue on each end to keep beads on string.
Using your glue gun start wrapping your lanyards around the mirror, securing in place with hot glue. (The wrinkles you see come out once glue is dry)
Once completed, you may opt to paint around the side of the table top, or you can use left over paper, or leave as is. I painted the edge with milk paint I had on hand.
It is now time to add the belt. I looped the belt together on the second last hole and cut in half. You are going to take a small screw nail and make a hole at the end of each cut piece. You may also use a hammer and nail to create hole. You are now going to attach it to your mirror. Centering on either side. Using a screwdriver secure in place.
Here it is completed. This is a cheap alternative to expensive mirrors.
I am pleased with how it turned out, and the options are endless as to what you can use to cover the table top that won't break the bank.
