How To Make A Loose Change Jar For The Laundry Room

I love upcycling glass jars, and it doesn’t make a difference to me what kind of jar. Mason jars, pickle jars, etc. To me a jar is a jar and you can upcycle them into so many cute, and useful things.

Today I am going to share my diy loose change jar, which is great for keeping all the change found while doing the laundry.

Best of all it cost me nothing because I had everything on hand. Empty jar, scrap wood, paint, wire.

Repurposed jar

Start off by washing your jar in hot soapy water, and dry. Then paint the glass jar the color of your choice.

While the jar is drying cut a piece of wood 15” in length. I used a wood fence picket, then aged it with my aging solution.

Next dry brush some white paint on to the wood.

When the wood is dry then stencil the wording “loose change” onto the top of the board with black paint.

To highlight the letters, I used the same color that I painted the jar, and just painted the edges of the letters.

Now go back to the jar and distress it with sandpaper.

I switched out the lid for a mason jar rim. If you would like to age the rim as well check out my post on how to make rusty cans. You can apply the same process to age the rim.

Now place the jar on the wood and mark where you need to drill two small holes. One on each side of the neck of the jar.

Once the holes are drilled use wire to attach the jar, add a hook for hanging, and that all there is to making a loose change jar. Now start collecting that change, and once full treat yourself to lunch.
