The first gift I remember my husband giving me when we were dating was a tool set. Yes, really!! I LOVE tools and know other women do too. So I’m going to share my must-have list of general tools for home DIY projects. Oh, and please remember safety first! Have a good pair of gloves, safety glasses and ear plugs nearby before using your tools.

This first list is where I'd start if I were starting from scratch.

Cordless Drill. Use this with EVERY SINGLE PROJECT.

Level. Keeps things straight - need I say more?

Screw driver set. A good assortment of heads and sizes.

Hammer. Strong enough for prying and pulling nails.

Measuring tape. Buy several (we have 5) with at least one sturdy enough for measuring long distances.

Circular saw. We use it ALL the time

These were the secondary tools we bought.

Sander. Quarter pad type works great but an orbital will work too.

Clamps. Small and long ones are good.

Chop saw/miter saw. For perfect angles!

Saw horses. Fold flat and can be used as an extra workstation.

Nail gun. Best tool ever! (You'll also need a compressor for this tool).

Stud finder. Makes finding studs so easy!

Square. Super handy to mark straight lines and check right angles.

Dremel Multi-Max. The flat blade is able to get into places other saws can't.

I hope this tool guide was a helpful guide for you. Invest in these items a little at a time and before you know it you'll be ready to conquer any DIY project that comes your way! Buy the best quality tool you can afford at the time you need to use it. Some kits or tool sets will have sizes you won’t use.

Great list Jenni! Buying a compressor is a big cost for a lot of people, but nail guns are SO handy. Have you ever tried any of the electric nail guns? I've been meaning to get one for a while just to try it out.
