Hi, all!
You know I am kind of obsessed with “Before and Afters”; I think they are great when repurposing something you don’t like but it is still useful. This happened to our previous coffee table which was too small for our new sofa. It was about time to get a new (second hand) table big enough, so I searched the internet and found this Ikea Lack coffee table for 20€. It had a perfect size, yay!
The top was a bit damaged but I didn’t mind because I had plans for it.
As you can see the previous owner wasn’t too handy with screws…
My first task was go shopping, and I came back home with this piece of pine wood. I love pinewood because it is cheap and it dyes wonderful.
I measured it and had it cut into four equal pieces to fit the top. Then it was time to dye the wood, you may want to check the full tutorial on how to dye wood the green way .
Look at the contrast of colors between dyed and raw wood.
While they were drying, I painted the table white with my DIY chalk paint. You will find the recipe on the blog.
As I wanted the table top to have a weathered look, I prepared some paint for the job. I have a full tutorial on how to weather wood here.
I glued the wood to the table and let it dry. You will find more info about this part of the process in the blog, link below at the bottom.
Here's the table finally done.

Did you remove the previous table top to put on your new wood. The table top doesnt look extra thick with the new wood so thought you must have removed the original wood.

How do you finish the raw sides so it looks like the rest of the table? I have a black table that needs a new too but I don’t like the raw looking ends and sides.
