icon On Earth day my kids and I decided to create a miniature gnome garden! We have all had a fascination with these small gardens and the little people that live in them. About a year ago we started collecting things, but could never decide just what to plant our miniature garden in. icon
Here is what we used for our Gnome Garden:
Garden soil
1 Yellow bucket with holes drilled into the bottom
1 recycled plastic juice container
9 Plants (we ended up not using 3 of the plants pictured)
Packing peanuts (not pictured)

Garden gnome accessories, we also used small river pebbles and one medium rock not pictured.
First we placed the recycled plastic juice container in the center of the yellow bucket then put packing peanuts in around the juice container.
icon By using the recycled plastic juice container and packing peanuts it uses less soil and makes the bucket lighter for moving around!

Then we added a little potting soil to the top.
We put the gnome house in the place that we wanted it to be permanently and placed plants around it. Here we are placing an Ipomoea Batatas plant that will become shad for the gnomes house.
After we got our plants placed we removed the little gnome house and added potting soil to fill in around the plants.
Here is all the plants in place and the bucket filled in with soil.
The plants we used are: icon
Alyssum
Viola
Ipomoea Batatas
Yellow Daffodil
Pansy
Saxifraga
Then we started placing the garden gnome accessories. We moved things around several times to get just the right placement for each item.icon

We placed a medium rock under the gnome house to raise it up a little.

After doing this we can't wait to do another one. It was so much fun and a great activity to do with kids! icon
