Looking for an affordable outdoor seating option? You can build your own sectional sofa on a budget! It only takes a few materials. Add cushions and pillows to dress it up and then enjoy your conversation piece.
Watch our video tutorial for instructions! We offer tips and tricks and make the process go smoothly for you.
Start by measuring and cutting your plywood according to the free, printable, building plans on our blog.
Drill pocket holes and cut notches for the supports in the pieces for the base frame.
Cut and glue the support beam, then use screws to attach. Drill pocket hole screws, then cut and attach middle support.
Attach base frame using pocket hole screws. Then add support beam.
Glue and screw plywood seat pieces together. Then, attach seat to frame with pocket hole screws.
Now it's time to attach the back. Glue, clamp, and screw the back to the seat pieces. Glue on side pieces.
While the sides are drying, add blocking and attach 1/4 backing to bottom of bench. This helps to keep out those pesky flying critters.
Fill holes and when dry, sand your masterpiece. You can stain, paint, or finish as you desire.
Enjoy your new place to relax and entertain!

Looks really nice! You did a good job, your photos and directions are easy to understand. :-). Did you consider an additional support under the longer bench? Plywood will eventually bend with weight and use; our plywood bookshelves did after some months. I could flip the shelves but you can't flip a sofa! Thanks for sharing.

Any suggestions to protect the wood against sun and rain? These two cause mayor issues even with any wooden in Florida, even tested fences.
