I was in love with the West Elm Emmerson Dining Table, the pallet wood, the bulky legs and top...then I saw the price tag! Gulp! I knew there had to be a cheaper way, and there was! I built this knockoff dining table for a tenth of the price of West Elm's version! Woohoo!

Get the full plans here for the Knockoff West Elm Emmerson Dining Table on my blog!

To get started I must let you know that typically I am an avid builder with my little ol' Kreg Jig and pocket holes are my best friend, but on this project I learned a couple new skills that had me feeling like a real builder! LoL! So the tutorial is a little more in depth than my typical tutorials and uses a few more tools than I typically use!

Material list, cut list and in depth tutorial are in the post linked above!

Gather 4x4s and plane them for a nice level top! Glue them up, if planed no need for anything other than glue, if you don't have a plane, the Kreg Jig HD works great for attaching 4x4s!
I didn't clamp on top as well as on bottom so they bowed a little on top! Nothing a fancy hand plane couldn't get rid of though!

Glue up the legs, cutting out the slot for the stretcher to fit. I used a table saw to cut the slot on each board before attaching.
Create the stretcher and make a 'key' to hold the table together!
Time to create a space to place the 'key'! Drill press and chisels make light work of this!
Hammer that key down in there and see if all your hard work pays off!
Woot woot! Place the top on the base and attach! Finish in any way you choose! I included a post for the faux pallet wood tutorial on my blog!
I even built a matching bench to go along with the table! Get the plans for it here West Elm Emmerson Dining Bench!

Thank you for checking out my table build! If you build one for yourself I would LOVE to see it!

Where can I find the entry on the finish you did on this table and bench? It really looks great, good job.

This is what I got when I tried opening your link.

It seems to be from an issue on your end, can it be fixed?

This post had my screenshot included until I posted it, then it disappeared.

I did get a big warning of a potential risk from your website with tip to notify the website administrator.

    Wow! This is GORGEOUS!

How can you say the cost was so low considering all the equipment needed, which is so much more than the average home owns? Also, all 4x4's sold around here are pressure treated except for cedar. The least expensive 4x4 cost about $15 each.

Hey Judy! This post was written several years ago now and yes, it only cost me 120 bucks at the time, unfortunately even for me lumber has gone through the roof recently! I have untreated 4x4s at both my local Home Depot and Lowe's always stocked, but that varies from place to place and store to store, they should easily be able to order them for you if they don't have them in store. Its crazy, in March of this year, I priced out fencing material for our backyard fence, treated 4x4s were 11.00 here and when I went to actually make the purchase for my fencing materials in May, they were 18 dollars each! 😳Untreated are still only 12 dollars but considering when I built this table they were only 8.89 it's still a big increase! And, I don't own the equipment I was using either, I went to my Dad's shop to use his equipment! A friend of mine uses a local woodshop, they open on certain days to the public to use their fancy tools for a small fee! All in all though you could build this table without any fancy equipment as well, the only item not found in most home garage shops is a planer... but you can run the 4x4s through a table saw to get the edges straight instead. I have done that on many projects because sometimes hauling all my lumber somewhere else isn't that practical! Lol! Sorry if it seems misleading, but I don't really know how else to give a cost other than what I paid, and I can't possibly update every post every time lumber goes up! 🥰 Thanks for checking out my project! Have a good one!
