Did Someone Say "Bombe"?

My DD tagged me on a FB bombé chest ad.
So we drove out to take a look. As I was looking at it, the lady took $10 off just because she was happy I showed up - it's common for people to make appointments to buy furniture off Craig's List or Facebook and not to keep them. BTDT!
It was in rough shape and covered in soot (perhaps it was in a smokers house or near a fireplace?) Anyway, it took a lot to clean up and repair the dents and dings that weren't supposed to be there...
Krud Kutter is my go-to when cleaning.
When I clean my hardware, I soak it over night and sometimes a couple of days in tomato sauce or tomato paste and then scrub them up.
Using Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan, in Graphite, Coco, and French Linen, I layered the colors and dry brushed till I got an old-world look.
I'm not afraid to experiment, so when I want to give a bit of depth to my pieces, I play around with the paint till I get what I want.
The paint has undertones of gray, so depending on the light, it takes on different shades. One of the drawer glides had to be remade and repositioned a few times to get a seamless and straight drawer slide.
Adding stenciling and drawer lining added to the look.
A little light sanding over the stenciled design added to the old-world flavor.
Champagne metallic paint on the pulls and a flat top coat made one-of-a-kind show piece. To see more photos of the project along with detailed instructions, visit the original post at the link below.
