For a long time I have been trying to figure out the perfect cabinet for under my wall mounted tv, most still showed all the electrical plugs behind it or stuck out to far in the way. I have been lugging this shipping box around holding my husband misc. which he has a lot of Misc! Came across it in the basement thought I would give it a new life to hold modern and cable box. With a few modifications it is complete and fits in with my style. Hope you like.
It was perfect height and depth
Once I turned up on it side it was perfect. I just needed to dig out some casters in my collection of Caster’s. I love to be able to roll things around to clean under them.
Ink writing
I just needed to sand a bit to remove old permanent ink on the sides and front.
Shipping arrows
I loved the shipping arrows and planed to add stenciled fragile on the side. In hindsight my stain was a bit to dark so the arrows don’t show as much as I wanted.
More ink
Most of facing was plywood so didn’t worry about smoothing to much.
Fragile stencil
I stained it an aged oak, and wanted to do more so I pulled out my cricut and made two fragile stencils. Taped them on the side and used black spray paint. Turned out nifety.
Here the door is open to see what is inside
I used a hole saw bit on the drill big enough to run breaker bar plug out the back.
Modern and cable box
So all was good until hubby came home and tried to change the channel with no luck, I never thought a 1/4 plywood wood block the signal but it did. The front was to plain anyway and was trying to figure out what to put on the front.
Marked where wood design would be
I had found a cool wood cutout and didn’t know where I would use it. Surprise works great to cover my holes to let signal through.
Here is the wood piece I was using. I lightly sanded it and added some color. Of course it was my weathered stain. I use a paddle bit to make the holes with tape not to tear up wood to much and touched up with stain not to let it show through.
Added a little character
I pre drilled holes before screwing it to door. Attached wood cutout and it gave it a bit of character as well as serve a purpose.
Blue light is glowing
Well it is complete, and you can see the glowing blue light through it. It works great! But not according to my husband.
