Kitchen Backsplash Re-do On A Budget

Have a nice laminate counter top but HATE your back splash? Here's an easy guide to simply removing your laminate back splash and replacing it, on a budget, quickly and beautifully!

We bought a house with newer laminate counters and couldn't afford to replace them. Eventually we'd like solid quartz counters. I decided to replace just the back splash, sink and faucet to really change the look and lighten it up! It was easier than I thought! I really hated the metal edging great for catching food, ugh.

I spent quite a bit of time looking at how to remove the laminate on the wall (easy) and what to replace it with. I wanted something easy to install, durable and easy to clean.

About 5 minutes and main back splash is off! I used a putty knife and hammer. The laminate is simply glued on and comes right off. Start at the metal edge, loosen and pull off.

I used Fasade's 18" x 24" folk art style panels, in matte white, see blog for more link and more info. Makes for fast install. Per their direction PAINT the wall the same color, white, in case there's any tiny gaps (which there weren't). Receptacles need to be pulled to lay in the back splash. See a qualified electrician if you don't want to do it yourself. Dave showed me how since he works in the electrical field.

I then did a "dry fit" using sharp scissors to cut. I used Liquid Nails to adhere the sheets to the wall. I also used the end trim and corners pieces sold to go with the sheets, for a nice clean finish. For the rest of the photos check out my blog. Part 2 of the kitchen project adding new sink/faucet is here- http://littlehomesteadinboise.blogspot.com/2015/07/kitchen-re-do-part-2-more-record.html

One year later here's how it has held up-

Looks great and we've gotten tons of compliments! It took me 2 afternoons to do the project, not counting getting everything moved out. For the back splash, adhesive and trim it was under $140.00,

You did a great job on your back splash, and i love your sink..may I ask how much you paid? Also If you like your wood cabinets those are beautiful, but Im going for that farmhouse look...i already have the shiplap on one side of the kitchen/dining room and a focal wall in the LR...but to the point i have ugly flat cabinets and there are 18 up top and 15 on bottom...you have the beautiful shaker style already with the trim on the outside of them.. lovely...anywho..to save money im going to work that in later after i paint them all...they are a yellow oak...yeah,ugh...but im painting white on top and a darker color of grey on the bottom, as my walls will be grey and the shiplap white...again your cabinets would look so.so.so good white..from your decor it looks as though you like the farmhouse look too.i live in the country but no farm, only my ranch style with a full length front porch and side deck..bug enough for an umbrella set and a grill..my front porch looks like a cracker barrel..so does my kitchen but its so hard for meto get ri of alot as my momma just passed and i cant let it go..i have no idea why im telling you all this but your little kitchen has ALOT OF POTENTIAL...good buy hon
